Talk About Mud-flaps!

This is fabric I am painting for a collaborative piece.
In my head I was singing the song "Big Bottom", by Spinal Tap, while painting. Sometimes the inspiration chooses me.

This is the second fabric I am painting for my collaborative work.
Fabric part two.
Music in my head early in the day was a Dire Straits song, cant remember what one it was right now. And then later in the day I was humming "Moves Like Jagger", in case you are wondering.
Now here?
Maybe here?

Getting Closer

I worked on cleaning the Garagemahal  today for about 3 hours, I have come so far, but have so much more to go before having a place to gather. I look forward to chillin with friends, painting and drawing in this space, and listening to some live music here.

As of today 6-13-12, still so many things I want to get rid of. Most of what needs to be sorted are Scott's things.

I Love Impressionist Painting

Darker than it looks
Yes 3 of the same flower
Late 1800s early 1900s France my favorite time in art history. Tonight I decided to invoke the Impressionist artists of this era by having a drink and painting by candle light. To help set the mood I have on a movie from 1938, "Jezebel" with Bette Davis and Henry Fonda. Okay so it takes place in the 1800s USA, but still they are from a time when people and talk funny in the movies. Here is what Transpired.
These will be sanded down next.

with a little light on.

Painting Again

This is the under-wash for a new painting I started. My goal is to not go too long on this and leave it loose. I usually do many layers of paint, but I like this design as is too. It is a bit unfinished for my own sensibilities, but I know that is has good value as is too. I sure could use some constructive critiques. I hope to get a constructive critique group together soon.

Cleaning up in the name of fun

Cleaning up so I can do art and have fun in the Garagemahal once again. I feel like there should be a time-lap movie montage set to ragtime music while I do this clean up.
I spent 2 hours this evening cleaning I got that upper left hand corner clean. I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wait NO, that's just the door.

Art in The Garagemahal

This morning I headed out into our garage, AKA The Garagemahal, in search of a blue tarp. The tarp was not out anywhere apparent, I grabbed a rake and used it to pull down the attic ladder and ventured up. No blue tarp in the attic, but there in a pile where old canvass, it has been years since I looked at these. I unfolded them and tossed them down to the garage floor so that I could have a good look. I like to see art I did years ago. I like my artwork, and I become inspired by what I have done, and realize what I can do now with experience.
The Garagemahal has served many purposes in years past, it has been a concert hall, a party room, a man cave, and an art studio. Acoustic artists who were traveling would contact us and ask if they could preform in The Garagemahal, word got out on the "house concert" circuit that we had this "venue". After noticing some disrepair I ended the use for concerts. Even though we were not having concerts and parties, we would still go out and enjoy the fireplace.
At one point my neighbor who was also an artist, and I decided to set up the Garagemahal so that we could draw. One night a week we would have a model come and pose for several hours. It was the first time since college that I had drawn a model from life. My neighbor moved away, and I no longer would go out and draw in the Garagemahal. I am fortunate to have other studio spaces in my home to work in. The poor Garagemahal has become a drop zone, and well a garage.

These memories came back to me while doing my anthropological dig in the garage this morning. I have other artist friends, and it occurs to me there may be an opportunity to get back to group drawing and painting in The Garagemahal. I hope to find some artist friends who would help me clear out the space, and make an area to draw and paint in once again.

Egg Anyone?

Sculptor Melissa Getz, from CO. asked Scott and me to make a glass egg for a piece of art she was creating. She wanted the kind shown in the foreground, We sent her the one in the frying pan as a joke.

Fused Sculpted Glass

This is a fused and sculpted work that I did a long time ago. I think it's been about 4 years or more now. It is a very time consuming process where I hand cut and layer the glass tack fuse it and then sculpt the work with the heat of the glory hole. I hope to one day soon be able to do some sculpted and rolled glass works. One day when I have the funds.
